Founder Rekha Reddy compiled some of her family's absolute favorite products for celebrating the Diwali season. Featuring predominantly South Asian brands (and a few childhood classics), she hopes these offer joy and inspiration for making new traditions and memories with your families. No affiliate links or gimmicks here -- just one mom sharing her family favorites with yours.
Diwali is one of my favorite times of year. Not just for the obvious reasons -- the lights, the sweets, the excuse to wear something sparkly -- but because it's one of those rare moments where our whole family slows down, celebrates together, and leans into everything we love about our culture. As an Indian-American mom raising my own little buboodees in Dallas, I've spent years hunting down the products that actually make our celebrations feel meaningful, beautiful, and fun. This year, I wanted to share them all with you.
Consider this your permission slip to shop with intention. Everything on this list is something my family genuinely uses and loves.
Sweet Treats & Kitchen Essentials

Malai Ice Cream Our modern nod to Diwali's sweet tradition. We've been gifting six-packs to my in-laws for years -- they're notoriously impossible to shop for, but they absolutely love them. The fusion flavors are creative and delicious, and their gulab jamun ice cream cake has become a full-on staple in our Diwali spread. Highly, highly recommended.
Diaspora Spice Co. The best food starts with the best ingredients, and these are the absolute best spices -- regeneratively and sustainably farmed in India. We've been using them for years in both Indian and "American" recipes alike. I genuinely cannot imagine a Diwali feast (or any meal) without them. Their vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg bundle is also perfect for fall baking -- it makes our apple bread recipe something special.
Dishoom Cookbooks & Products After a family trip to London, we finally understood the hype. Based on the welcoming Iranian cafes that once filled Mumbai, Dishoom is all about community and culture -- which feels very on-brand for our family. Their recipes are staples in our house, and their chai mix and spices make a beautiful gift for any foodie family on your list.

Kolkata Chai Co. Nothing says Indian household nostalgia quite like a genuinely good cup of chai. This mix is the real deal -- not the offensive, syrupy mess you get most places. If there's a chai lover in your life, this is the gift.
Milk and Cardamom Cookbook Author Hetal Vasavada is a literal MasterChef (pun very much intended) at blending flavors across cultures -- a true representation of what it means to be a modern Indian-American today. She's warm, approachable, and her recipes bridge traditions in the most beautiful way. This one makes a wonderful gift for the home cook in your life.

For Little Ones

Buboodee Diwali Pajamas and Blankets Of course I have to start with our own! As an Indian-American mom who couldn't find Diwali pajamas beautiful enough to pay real homage to our culture, I created these premium bamboo sets myself. They honor our heritage while being cozy, fun, and whimsical enough for all-day wear. Gorgeous enough for family photos, soft enough for snuggles, and meaningful enough to become a new family tradition. Available in sizes 0-7, because every buboodee deserves to feel celebrated during the Festival of Lights.

Ahimsa Stainless Steel Plates and Utensils Created by a pediatrician and Indian mom, these non-toxic plates and utensils are just like the old-school Indian ones I grew up with. My kids use these exclusively after we noticed their silicone ones started tasting like soap -- yuck. Ahimsa's story comes from founder Dr. Mantravadi's roots in India and a gentle nudge from her own mother to put safer materials on the family table. Diwali is the perfect time to create a showstopping tablescape that also happens to be safer for your kids.

Play Suri Grocery Play Sets Inspired by the belief that little ones should see themselves in their play, this entrepreneurial mom created the most adorable Desi grocery set I've ever seen. Perfect for kids who love pretend play, these sets help children explore different cultures through imaginative cooking and shopping. Made of sustainable beech wood in an on-trend color palette -- we loved this one so much we collaborated to include them on our website.

Modern Marigold Books Would you believe there is an entire publishing company dedicated to children's books featuring South Asian protagonists navigating the unique experiences facing little Desi kids? There is, and we love them. Our son's current favorite is "Sandwiches and Samosas" -- it's all about celebrating different cultures and trying new things, which feels very buboodee.
LEGO Peacock Creator Set We're building this one for Diwali this year. It's perfect for families who love both tradition and modern play. (And LEGO, if you're reading this -- please make that rangoli set from your Diwali landing page. It looks incredible and we need it.)

Crayola Washable Glitter Paint Our go-to for decorating diyas. The glitter is festive, the washable formula means less stress about the inevitable creative mess, and the kids absolutely love it. A small thing that makes a big impression on a Diwali craft night.

The Heritage Story Have you ever shopped in India, fallen in love with beautiful pieces, and then felt like the aesthetic didn't quite translate to your home back here? Same. The Heritage Story has done the work for you -- a beautifully curated selection of homewares that celebrate South Asian craftsmanship with the modern Desi home in mind.
Meri Meri Party Supplies Not South Asian, but they make the cutest paper plates and party supplies we use every year for our Diwali celebrations. Their star-shaped sparklers are especially great for Diwali nights -- festive, fun, and genuinely beautiful.
Travel

STATE Bags The holiday season often means travelling to see family, and travel is a huge part of our story at Buboodee. Traveling with children -- whether for vacation or to visit family -- comes with its challenges (believe me, we have been there), and these bags are a total dream. Don't let their compact and cute appearance fool you -- they're incredibly well made and somehow fit everything. My son's entire wardrobe for a 19-night, multi-country trip fit in his carry-on. They also garner plenty of compliments as your little one proudly wheels through the airport. Most importantly, they donate a bag for every bag sold.
From our family to yours -- wishing you a bright, warm, and joyful Diwali. May your home be full of light, your table full of good food, and your buboodees full of wonder.
With love, Rekha
